Press Janko Tipsarevic is the winner of the HYPO ALPE-ADRIA OPEN 2006, the fifth tennis tournament from the Challenger series, organized in Belgrade by the Tennis Club GEMAX. In today’s finals, in front of the sold-out stands and with the great support of the spectators, Tomas Cakl retired due to the shoulder injury at the result of 6:4 and 4:1 for domestic national team player. Janko has thus become second domestic player who won the GEMAX Tournament. The Prize Money this year has been the biggest so far – 100.000 US dollars. Mr. Djordjo Antelj, the president of the GEMAX Company, has handed over the cup to the winner.The top seeds, Germans Kohlman and Waske, won the title in the competition of doubles. They defeated in the finals the Minar brothers from the Czech Republic (7:6, 6:3). Tipsarevic, satisfied with his performance, outlined that he couldn’t possibly chose a better tournament for the victory of his life, because this represents the biggest success in his carrier in the indoors competition. - The most beautiful feeling gives you the victory in your own hometown and in front of the domestic supporters. I am particularly glad because all this happened on the GEMAX tennis-courts. Mr. Djordjo Antelj has been supporting me unselfishly since the very beginning of my career. I’m sorry because Tomas retired the match, but I think I absolutely deserved this title. The whole Tournament has passed flawlessly – Tipsarevic said. The other finalist, Tomas Cakl, also praised the organizers: - I know Janko for 10 years already. We are excellent friends and we train together very often. He was better this time, but there will be other opportunities for a return game. I felt a pain in my shoulder after the first set and the pain was growing stronger with time. I didn’t want to risk my health any more and injure myself more seriously. Mr. Djordjo Antelj, the organizer and the mastermind of the Tournament which goes on for the fifth year in continuation on the Tennis Club GEMAX, has announced his wish to organize a big ATP tournament in Belgrade in the course of the coming years with the expected award fund of 350-400.000 dollars, which citizens of Belgrade certainly deserves. The next year award fund for the tournament played on the GEMAX tennis courts will be 150.000 dollars. During the last week, the Belgrade spectators had the opportunity to enjoy matches of the top-level international tennis players, among which even four rank in the top 100. Eight of them are also the national team players for their countries. Numerous sports experts and journalists, who visited the GEMAX tennis-courts, claim that this tournament has most certainly been the strongest one so far in Serbia and Montenegro, judging by the quality of the players. They also had only the words of praise for the entire organization of the Tournament. Perhaps the most pleasing praises came from Mr. Dirk Hordorf, one of the world’s most famous tennis managers.
